Lorega Celebrates 40 Years of Expert Help
Lorega, the UK’s most respected, reassuring and caring claims expert, is proud to celebrate its 40th anniversary this year. Since its founding in June 1985, the company has remained committed to independently helping policyholders prepare, negotiate and settle their insurance claims.
The company’s journey has been marked by key milestones, such as the hire of Neill Johnstone in the late eighties, to help develop the early version of the Loss Recovery Insurance scheme, secure a network of broker partners, and recruit a first panel of Chartered Loss Adjusters, while expanding Lorega’s claims assistance expertise throughout the nineties and the noughties. Lorega Solutions was then created in 2010 with Angus Tucker at its helm, employing Chartered Loss Adjusters that adhere to the CILA (Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters) code of conduct.
Other key events include Loss Recovery Insurance (LRI) being available on Acturis, Lorega becoming an approved coverholder at Lloyd’s, and the start of the long-lasting relationship with BIBA (British Insurance Brokers Association) in the early 2000’s. Lorega became a founding member of the MGAA (Managing General Agents Association) and a Chartered MGA in 2010, launched Lorega Online, its own Quote & Buy system in 2011, and the FNOL (First Notification of Loss) tool in 2017. The live video streaming service to support claims was introduced in 2019. The range of products and services expanded with a simpler version of LRI, Lorega 10, as well as new professional services BCP Expert and Liability Expert in 2015, Surveying Services in 2019 and Legal Expert in 2021.
Over the past four decades, our experts have handled extreme weather claims locally and internationally, terrorism claims (IRA Bombings in London, World Trade Centre attacks on 9/11), quirky claims (the repatriation of Rocky the dolphin to the Caribbean), celebrity claims, and even top-secret ones. Of course, the team’s biggest challenge to date was the Covid-19 pandemic with the notification and settlement of an unprecedented number of claims.
In 40 years, Lorega has built a reputation for delivering first-class claims expertise, with service being at the heart of everything it does. As an indication of service standards, policyholders who have had a claim, have scored Lorega at more than 95% satisfaction in follow up surveys, for the last ten years. On an industry level, insurance brokers have voted Lorega number one in the Insurance Times Broker Service Survey for Commercial Lines against other MGAs and insurers for un unprecedented three years running in 2016, 2017/18, 2018/19. They also consistently rated the company 5 stars for customer service in the Insurance Times Broker MGA Surveys for five consecutive years since 2020, awarding the top rank in 2020/21, 2021/22 and currently in 2024/25.
