The claim that could have gone
wrong, a story from our archives, which clearly show the value
of using an Independent Loss adjuster on complex claims.

An elderly couple, both medical doctors,
had returned to their South Coast property having been away for
a week's holiday. During their absence thieves had removed roof
tiles and entered the house where they burgled a collection of
antique jewellery belonging to the lady doctor.
Insight Adjusters were appointed and met with the insureds that
same day and reviewed the case. A difficulty was that although
the lady doctor was something of an expert particularly in Victorian
jewellery, very few valuations existed and the jewellery had been
collected over a period of 40 years. In the course of a three-hour
meeting, they were able to obtain descriptions of these many items
as well as drawings and to establish provenance. Importantly, they
were able to put the insured's minds at rest regarding the likely
outcome of the claim.
Some two weeks later, a young Loss Adjuster arrived from the insurance
company. It transpired that his job was merely to complete a standard
form, as much as anything to establish that a burglary had taken
place and to get a rough idea of the quantum. He explained that
he would be reporting back to a call centre and that given the
extent of the loss, another Loss Adjuster from one of their regional
offices would be in touch.
In the interim period, Insight Adjusters were able to confer with
various experts, in particular a specialist jeweller who had worked
in the antique trade for his entire working life. They were able
to accurately quantify replacement costs together with detailed
descriptions and drawings. They also spoke with a local jeweller
who had supplied some of the items.

At
long last a decisive meeting took place with the insurer's
loss adjuster, the outcome was that the claim was settled in
full. Insight Adjusters even received a letter of thanks from
the insureds following receipt of the settlement cheque.
Our Loss Adjusters’ (definitely Super hero) success on this case was attributable
to the fact that
|
(a) They were able
to move quickly.
(b) They were able to provide the necessary, immediate reassurance to an elderly
couple.
(c) They were able to take off their hands the almost impossible task of quantifying
their claim (which the insurer's loss adjuster would certainly not do).
(d) Insight was able to formulate the claim based on expert knowledge leading
to a full and satisfactory settlement. |
